Orlando's $1 LYNX Fare: AdvantAge IDs and ACCESS LYNX Rides
If you're 65 or older, have Medicare, have a disability, or are a student in Orange, Osceola or Seminole County, LYNX will sell you bus fare at half price, but only with a LYNX-issued photo ID. And if you can't use the bus at all, ACCESS LYNX offers door-to-door rides through three different programs, each with its own price and rules. Here's how to get the ID, which paratransit program fits you, and the booking rules that cause the most missed rides.

What LYNX charges
LYNX runs local buses, NeighborLink on-demand zones and ACCESS LYNX paratransit for the three-county Central Florida area. Its fares page lists these prices:
Fare | Full price | Discount price |
|---|---|---|
Single ride | $2.00 | $1.00 |
All-day pass | $4.50 | $2.25 |
7-day pass | $16.00 | $8.00 |
30-day pass | $50.00 | $25.00 |
NeighborLink ride | $2.00 | $1.00 |
Link 709 Kissimmee Connector | Free | Free |
Transfer (within 90 minutes) | Free | Free |
A few rules that cost riders money:
Ask for the all-day pass before you pay. The operator issues it only on request, and you must ask before putting money in the farebox. It's good from 4 a.m. on the day issued until 3 a.m. the next day.
Transfers come from the operator when you board. They last 90 minutes and don't work on the same route or for a round trip.
Discount prices apply only to riders who qualify under LYNX's Youth & AdvantAge policy, and you must show your LYNX ID every time you board. Without it, you pay full fare.
You can buy digital passes in the LYNX Paw Pass app, but passes bought online can't be moved into the app.

The AdvantAge ID: who qualifies and how to get one
AdvantAge is LYNX's reduced fare ID for adults. It's good on local bus routes and NeighborLink. The first card is free, but replacements cost extra.
You are... | How you qualify |
|---|---|
65 or older | Show a Medicare card, birth certificate or government ID (driver's license, state ID or passport). No application needed. |
A Medicare card holder of any age | Complete the reduced fare application and attach a copy of your Medicare card. Your doctor doesn't need to fill out Part 3. |
A person with a medical disability (any age) | Complete Parts 1 and 2 of the application yourself. Your physician completes and signs Part 3. |
Applying with a disability or Medicare
Download the Reduced Bus Fare Application from LYNX's Reduced Fares page.
Fill out Parts 1 and 2 clearly. Part 2 authorizes LYNX to contact your health care professional.
Have your physician complete and sign Part 3, unless you have Medicare, in which case attach a copy of your card.
Mail the original to LYNX AdvantAge, Reduced Fare Program, 455 N. Garland Avenue, Orlando, FL 32801.
Wait for a letter. LYNX says applications are processed in five to seven business days, and it will notify you by mail.
Get your photo taken at LYNX Central Station on a weekday between 8:30 a.m. and 4:30 p.m. Bring a valid government-issued photo ID.
The application form also lists questions about SSI disability benefits, disabled veteran benefits and whether you ride ACCESS LYNX. It says LYNX checks your answers against its records.
Upon boarding a bus, eligible riders must present a LYNX issued ID to use the discounted fare. Failure to do so will result in you having to pay the full fare. (LYNX Reduced Fares page)
Where and when
The ID window is the Lost & Found window at LYNX Central Station. It's open Monday through Friday, 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., plus the third Saturday of every month from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. LYNX's current page says the card must be renewed every three years with a new application.

Youth and children
Ages 10 to 18 and still in high school: get a Youth ID by showing a birth certificate or government ID. The Youth ID application is on the Reduced Fares page.
Ages 7 to 9: eligible for a Youth Pass with no ID required.
Age 6 and under: ride free with an adult paying full or discount fare, up to three children per adult. A child 6 or under riding alone pays $1.
---
ACCESS LYNX: three programs, three fare rules
ACCESS LYNX is shared-ride, door-to-door service in Orange, Osceola and Seminole counties. You apply on paper (by mail), pick one program, and can't be enrolled in more than one at a time. LYNX may also ask for medical verification or an in-person functional assessment.
Program | Who it's for | One-way fare |
|---|---|---|
ADA paratransit | People whose disability keeps them from boarding, riding or getting off an accessible bus without help | $4 when both ends are within 3/4 mile of a bus route; $7 when either end is farther out |
Transportation Disadvantaged (TD) | People who meet two of three tests: no access to a fixed route, a disability, or individual income at or below 185% of the federal poverty level | $2.50 under 5 miles; $3.50 for 5 to under 10 miles; $4.50 for 10 miles or more |
Medicaid non-emergency transportation | Eligible Medicaid members going to a Medicaid-covered service with no other way to get there | $1, with no fare for those under 21, in approved institutional care, or traveling for pregnancy-related care |
Notes on each program
ADA riders also get ACCESS Plus+. Riders with current ADA eligibility can ride regular LYNX buses free and bring a free guest. Call 407-423-8747, option 7, for details.
TD is limited. It serves only trips where your origin or destination is more than three-quarters of a mile from a bus route. Trips are first come, first served, with priority for critical care, then other medical, employment, education and other trips. TD applications require proof of income, since LYNX doesn't accept self-declaration. LYNX counts your own income, not your household's, and processing can take up to 21 days.
Medicaid trips outside the three counties need a referral from your primary medical provider and confirmation from the facility treating you. Call eligibility at 407-423-8747, option 6, at least a week ahead.
Companions and attendants: One registered personal care attendant rides free on ADA trips. Companions pay the same fare as you.
Visitors with ADA eligibility from another transit agency can ride for up to 21 days in any 365-day period.

Booking rules that trip people up
These come from LYNX's ACCESS LYNX How-to-Ride guide:
No same-day service. Book from one to seven days ahead by phone at 407-423-8747, option 4, from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m., seven days a week. Riders with unconditional eligibility can also book online through WebACCESS, but online requests must be in by 5 p.m. the day before. TTY: 711 or 800-955-8771.
Book your return trip at the same time. If you don't schedule it in advance, you may not get one.
Be ready at your pickup time. The driver waits only five minutes, but may arrive up to 30 minutes after the pickup time.
Cancel at least one hour before pickup (option 3, or WebACCESS) or it counts as a no-show. Five or more no-shows is an "offense," which can lead to a warning letter and then suspensions.
Bring exact change. Drivers don't carry money. Prepaid ticket books are discounted 10%: a $20 book costs $18 and a $50 book costs $45. Buy them online, by phone at 407-254-6077, or at the LYNX Central Station customer service window.
Recertify early. Eligibility doesn't renew on its own. Submit a new application at least 30 days before it expires.
