What to Bring to Angel Tree Registration
Houston's page doesn't publish a document list, so call your location first. The Salvation Army's national Angel Tree application says you may be asked for:
Photo ID
Proof of residence, such as a lease, utility bill, or mail from a school district or government agency
For each child: a birth certificate or official custody or guardianship papers
Clothing and shoe sizes and one toy wish per child
Some areas take applications online at saangeltree.org. Enter your ZIP code to see if your location uses it. If it says your area isn't served there, register in person.
Houston Children's Charity Toy Distribution (Toys for Tots Partner)
Houston Children's Charity (HCC) has partnered with the U.S. Marine Corps Toys for Tots program since 2008 for its Annual Toy Distribution at the George R. Brown Convention Center.
2026 applications are open now. The application is on HCC's Forms page, in English and Spanish.
Space is limited and applications are first-come, first-served.
Approved families are invited to the toy distribution event at the George R. Brown Convention Center.
Questions: 713-524-2878 or hcc@houstonchildrenscharity.net.
HCC hasn't posted the 2026 event date on its program page yet. Apply early and watch for HCC's confirmation.
Toys for Tots in Your County
Toys for Tots has no national application. On toysfortots.org, choose "Request a Toy," then find the campaign for your county. Many local campaigns opened requests October 1, 2026. Apply in one county only. Duplicate requests can get a family removed.
Holiday Food Help in Houston
Houston Food Bank pantry partners run all season. Use the "Find Food" map at houstonfoodbank.org or call 713-223-3700.
Turkey giveaways: Big ones usually announce dates in early November. For example, the Houston Texans and Kroger "Turkey Time" giveaway ran on November 25, 2025 at the Kroger Gate at NRG Stadium, while supplies lasted. Check for 2026 dates in November. Thanksgiving is November 26, 2026.
Churches often run their own food boxes and toy drives. See our Houston church guide below.
Don't Let the Light Bill Wreck Christmas
December is when many Houston families fall behind on CenterPoint and electric bills. Our Houston winter shutoff guide explains the PUC's extreme-weather disconnection rules and where to get bill help. Paying for gifts with a payday loan usually costs far more than the gifts. Call 211 first.
