AT A GLANCE

Paying someone to do a simple tax return in Las Vegas can easily cost more than a week of groceries. You don't have to. Every year, IRS-certified volunteers in Clark County prepare returns for free at libraries, senior centers, a university outreach office and a nonprofit headquarters on South Rainbow Boulevard.
This guide covers the three main free options in the valley, who each one is meant for, how appointments work, and what to bring so you don't get sent home. The 2027 filing season (for your 2026 income) hasn't started yet, so some details below come from the 2026 season. We've marked those clearly.
Last reviewed: October 2026. Read how we verify guides in our Editorial Standards.
Who Qualifies for Free Tax Help
The IRS runs two volunteer programs, and both show up in Las Vegas.
VITA (Volunteer Income Tax Assistance) doesn't have one national income cap. The IRS says individual sites can set their own, and the program "generally" serves people who make about $70,244 or less, plus people with disabilities and limited English-speaking taxpayers.
TCE (Tax Counseling for the Elderly) focuses on people 60 and older, especially questions about pensions and retirement income. The IRS notes that most TCE sites are run by AARP Foundation Tax-Aide.
So a rough rule: if your household made under about $67,000 to $70,000, or you're a senior, you can very likely get a free return done. Above that, you may still qualify for free self-filing software.
One more thing worth knowing. The IRS requires every VITA/TCE volunteer to pass tax law training, and it requires a quality review of every return before it's filed. These are not unpaid amateurs guessing at your forms.
Most of the money in a free-prep visit comes from credits, not from the preparation itself.
Option 1: Nevada Free Taxes Coalition (VITA)
NFTC describes itself as an IRS-authorized VITA partner offering no-cost filing to low- and moderate-income Nevadans. It lists 14 free tax sites statewide and says it filed about 5,200 returns with more than $25 million in total refunds.
What NFTC offers
In-person tax prep with certified volunteers, including help with back-year returns
Drop-off service: you fill out an intake form, meet briefly with a volunteer, and leave your documents
MyFreeTaxes online filing, with guidance, if you want to do it yourself

Las Vegas-area NFTC sites (2026 season)
These are from NFTC's Locations & Hours page. The page says hours shown are from the current season and to check back in January 2027 for updates.
NFTC Headquarters, 4825 S. Rainbow Blvd., Ste. 212, Las Vegas 89103. 2026 season ran Jan. 26 to April 15, Thursday afternoons and Saturdays 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.
Doolittle Active Adult Center, 1950 N. J Street, Las Vegas 89106. Listed as an "Active Adult VITA" site. Season ran Jan. 26 to April 15.
Henderson HopeLink VITA Site, 178 Westminster Way, Henderson 89015. Season ran Jan. 24 to April 15.
Alexander Library, 1755 W. Alexander Rd., North Las Vegas 89032. Season ran Jan. 31 to April 15.
UNLV Outreach Center, 1455 E. Tropicana, Ste. 650, Las Vegas 89119. Walk-in only. Season ran Jan. 31 to April 11.
NFTC also lists a Pahrump site at 531 E. Calvada Blvd.
Off-season help
NFTC's headquarters kept limited off-season appointments from April 20 through October 15, 2026: Thursdays 2 to 5 p.m. and Saturdays 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. If you missed the deadline or need a prior-year return, call (702) 987-4625 to ask what's available between now and January.
A small but useful detail from NFTC: the office closes after the last scheduled appointment, even if the posted hours run later. Show up early, not at closing time.
Option 2: Library District Tax-Aide (AARP)
The Las Vegas-Clark County Library District partners with AARP Foundation Tax-Aide every season. In 2026 the district said help was open to Southern Nevada residents age 18 and older. You don't have to be an AARP member, and you don't have to be retired.
Sessions ran mid-January through April 2026, and they were by appointment only. Every library below used the same number: 702-381-6081.
2026 library schedule
Library | Address | 2026 days (10 a.m. to 3 p.m.) |
|---|---|---|
Clark County Library | 1401 E. Flamingo Rd. | Thursdays & Saturdays |
Centennial Hills | 6711 N. Buffalo Dr. | Wednesdays & Saturdays |
East Las Vegas | 2851 E. Bonanza Rd. | Saturdays |
Enterprise | 8310 S. Las Vegas Blvd. | Mondays |
Rainbow | 3150 N. Buffalo Dr. | Fridays & Saturdays |
Sahara West | 9600 W. Sahara Ave. | Wednesday through Saturday |
West Charleston | 6301 W. Charleston Blvd. | Mondays |
Windmill | 7060 W. Windmill Ln. | Thursdays & Fridays |
Days can shift from year to year, so treat this as a guide to which branches usually host Tax-Aide, not a promise.
More Tax-Aide sites (Henderson and North Las Vegas)
NV Tax-Aide's own location list adds sites that book through a different number, (702) 381-0655:
Green Valley Library, 2797 N. Green Valley Pkwy., Henderson
Paseo Verde Library, 280 S. Green Valley Pkwy., Henderson
Valley View Recreation Center, 500 Harris St., Henderson
Aliante Library, 2400 W. Deer Springs Way, North Las Vegas
North Las Vegas Service Center, 3090 E. Centennial Pkwy.
Sun City, 2215 Thomas W. Ryan Blvd., Las Vegas
It also lists Lieburn Senior Center, 6230 Garwood Ave., at (702) 229-1600.
Booking online
Some Tax-Aide sites take online appointments through aarp.org/findtaxhelp. NV Tax-Aide warns that people often stop too early. After picking a slot, scroll down and click "Review Appointment," then click "Confirm Information" on the next page. You should get a printable receipt and a confirmation email. If you don't, your appointment wasn't saved.
Option 3: Chicanos Por La Causa (Silverado VITA)
In early 2026, Chicanos Por La Causa Nevada partnered with the Silverado VITA Coalition to offer free returns at 555 N. Maryland Pkwy., Las Vegas 89101. According to a March 2026 News 3 report, help ran Thursdays, Fridays and Saturdays, 9 a.m. to 4 p.m., starting Feb. 5, for taxpayers earning $67,000 or less.
That report also said the Taxpayer Advocate Service would be on site to help with complicated IRS problems, which is unusual for a free site. If you have an unresolved IRS notice, this is a good place to ask about in 2027. We couldn't confirm whether the site will return next season.
Option 4: File It Yourself for Free
If your return is simple and you're comfortable online, IRS Free File may be the quickest route. The IRS page we checked says guided software is free for people age 17 to 85 with an adjusted gross income of $89,000 or less. There's also Free File Fillable Forms, with no income limit, for people who know their way around a 1040.
Watch out for one thing: a Free File provider can charge for a state return, or charge you if you turn out not to meet its rules. Read every screen before you agree to pay anything.
You'll need last year's adjusted gross income or your self-select PIN to sign an e-filed return. If you can't remember last year's AGI, the IRS says you can look it up in your IRS online account or request a transcript by mail. If you've never filed, you can enter $0 as the AGI.
What to Bring to Any Free Site
NFTC's short list is photo ID, Social Security cards for everyone in the household, and last year's tax return. The IRS checklist is longer. Bring as much of this as applies to you:
☐ Photo ID for you and your spouse, if filing jointly
☐ Social Security cards (or ITIN letters) for you, your spouse and every dependent
☐ Birth dates for everyone on the return
☐ W-2s from every job, plus any 1099 forms (1099-MISC, 1099-R, W-2G for gambling winnings)
☐ SSA-1099 if you get Social Security
☐ Interest and dividend statements from your bank
☐ Last year's federal return, if you have it
☐ A blank check or bank letter for direct deposit
☐ Child care costs and your provider's tax ID number
☐ Form 1095-A if you had Marketplace health insurance
Married and filing jointly? The IRS says both spouses must be there to sign for an electronic joint return. This is the most common reason couples get turned away.
W-2G forms matter in Las Vegas. If you had a jackpot or other gambling win that triggered a W-2G, bring it. Volunteers can't report income they don't know about, and the IRS gets a copy.
Credits People Miss
Most of the money in a free-prep visit comes from credits, not from the preparation itself. NFTC says its volunteers check for every credit you qualify for. The big one for working families is the Earned Income Tax Credit (EITC), which is why VITA income guidelines track EITC limits so closely. Families with children should also expect the volunteer to look at the Child Tax Credit and child care costs, which is why the provider's tax ID matters.
How to Plan for the 2027 Season
Mark early January 2027 on your calendar. That's when NFTC says it will post new hours.
Call 702-381-6081 as soon as the library books open if you want a Tax-Aide slot. Library appointments fill up.
Start a folder now. Drop every tax form into it as it arrives in January.
Need help before then? NFTC's office or the IRS VITA locator (800-906-9887) is your best bet. For seniors, AARP's Tax-Aide line is 888-227-7669.
Call ahead about a few points we couldn't verify: 2027-season dates, hours and income limits haven't been posted, so dates above are from 2026. NFTC's headquarters season hours read "2 am–6 pm" on its site, which looks like a typo for 2 p.m.; call to confirm. We couldn't confirm whether the Chicanos Por La Causa site will return, NFTC's own income cap, or the full list of NFTC's 14 sites, since its interactive map didn't load for us.
